Managing Google Analytics for Your Customers
If you are a freelancer or agency who creates and manages Google Analytics accounts for your clients, then it is helpful to understand the structure of Google Analytics.
The hierarchy of Google Analytics includes Organization > Account > Property > View.
As the agency, you are the Organization. Your master Google account (say email@example.com or firstname.lastname@example.org) is the Organization and it has access to all of your client’s Google Analytics account information. This way, you have one login for all of your client Accounts.
Each of your customers should have their own Account. This is the most portable method of managing Google Analytics for your customers. Why? If down the road your customer wants to change agencies, then it’s easy to pass along the Account. We feel that the customer owns the Google Analytics data. It is their website after all. An agency is just an invited guest (even if you are the one who set up the account).
